What are Anxiety Disorders?
Anxiety is a normal part of life. However, individuals with anxiety disorders frequently have intense, excessive and persistent worry that interferes with daily activities.
There are several different types of anxiety disorders: generalized anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, selective mutism, separation anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder and specific phobias.
Signs and symptoms:
- Feeling nervous, restless or tense
- Having a sense of impending danger or doom
- Increased heart rate
- Breathing rapidly
- Sweating
- Trembling
- Feeling weak or tired
- Trouble concentrating
- Difficulty sleeping
- Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, stomachaches
- Difficulty controlling worry
- Avoiding things that trigger anxiety
